Director of Engineering

Job description

Sunroom is a venture-backed (series A) startup, headquartered in Austin, started by the Favor founders. At Sunroom, we're dramatically improving the home and apartment search process. In the future, we believe leasing will be self-service and renting a home will be as easy as booking a hotel.

Background:

  • Here's our product:
    • We're building a mobile first website and app. We have self-showing lock technology, renter tools, and a platform for real estate owners to get visibility into property metrics and showing feedback.

  • Here's our tech stack:
    • Our platform was built mostly in Node.js & React.

    • We sit on top of multiple APIs.

    • Sunroom uses AWS and a postgres db.

  • Here's our current product/engineering team:
    • 4 talented engineers including David, Antonio, Hunter and Wang.

    • Head of Product, Darius and our Junior PM Mitchell.

    • We’re small but mighty and we have roughly 25 team members across the entire organization.

About The Role

  • Leading Engineering: You’ll build on the existing infrastructure, while developing other new features from the ground up. Work cross functionally with several teams including engineering, product and go-to-market teams.

  • Building the Team: Hire and mentor engineers including backend, frontend, and full stack developers.

  • Maximizing Output: Set up the right processes to deliver our roadmap, scale our team and build upon our culture.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience leading a technical team at a fast-growing startup.

  • Being okay with both managing and coding, at the same time.
    • Our team is still small and we want someone who’s going to roll up their sleeves and work as both a player and coach.

  • Prior experience working in a fast-growing organization, and enjoy leading an evolving team.

  • Agile product development background. Experience using Jira.

  • You have built mobile-first applications.

  • Successful track record as an exceptional communicator and comfortable in presenting to both business and technical executives.

What You’ll Get

  • Major impact at a fast-growing company.

  • Competitive market compensation (stock/salary).

  • Health, dental and vision coverage through BCBS.

  • Monthly team events and happy hours!

  • Open PTO; flexible work environment.
